Every Day, Everyday Meditation
The genesis of this meditation was an Emmy to Dianne—daughter to mother—invitation. Emmy noted that there were many excellent guided meditations, but they assumed the listeners were sitting or lying down. While that worked for some, sitting was a screen posture for many workers for much of the day. She felt that folks often wanted a physical change when they paused and set an intention to clear their minds and shift their bodies. They opted frequently to walk, jog, run, dance. “Mom, we could use a guided meditation we can open on our phones and follow while we are in motion.”
“Every Day, Everyday Meditation” was created in answer to that need. You can walk, jog, run, and even dance while following the guided images. You can also follow the meditation if you are sitting or lying down. We hope you enjoy it often, alone or with others.
Melting Ice Meditation
The person whose story sparked this meditation was an experienced healing touch practitioner whom I met early in my healing touch studies. I never forgot her story. From the stiffness in her walk and posture, it was easy to see that she was dealing with physical pain. Some in the weekend workshop knew her and inquired about her ongoing health struggles. During a break, one asked how she managed the challenge of chronic pain each day, and she told this story about the power of prayer. The chronic pain, she explained, became so intense one Sunday as she sat in church that she wondered how she would be able to get up from the pew. She felt cold and stiff as though her entire body had become a block of ice. The image was powerful to her. As she focused on herself as a block of ice, she began to pray, asking God to melt her. While she held the image and the prayer intention, she said that she felt the pain drip, drip, drip away. This “melting” prayer became a daily practice for her. Years later and still thinking of her, I wrote “Melting Ice Meditation.” This meditation is best described as a guided image prayer. You can let the audio lead you or you can print the meditation and pray it slowly. Or both.
Gracious Rain Meditation
The Gracious Rain Meditation is one we used during several summers for the Celtic Healing Service at my church. It begins with a call to pray for rain in the parched areas of the natural world. It moves to a call for rain in the parched areas of our inner selves—a hardness over the heart, a dryness of one’s spirit.
Then the guided meditation moves one step further: into a prayerful petition that we might spiritually flourish and become gracious rain for one another.
This meditation has proven popular for a group experience, but it also works well if heard or read alone. You can let the audio lead or you can print the meditation and follow it on your own.
You are welcome to use this meditation, or any of the meditations, in a group experience.
